My Voya Facial experience in Embodyment

These days I find it difficult to set aside time for Me. To organise childcare and dedicate a few hours to myself can seem selfish yet I know it’s not. It is for the better. It is so important as a mother to treat yourself and allow yourself to be pampered. Everyone benefits, children and partners included. Busy mums are everyday juggling. We do the planning, thinking, creating, organisation of each day so Me time should be a priority. With all this in mind, I got myself organised to escape to Embodyment in Carrick-on Shannon for a Voya facial. Embodyment is run by Rachel O’Connor and offers an impressive range of treatments including Jessica nail care, Waxperts, reflexology and Ken Boylan ‘Play’ make-up. On entering you are met with a friendly face and impeccable customer service. Along with this you inhale an existing sense of calm from the flickering candles and soothing music. The treatment rooms are the definition of comfort, with cocooning towel management and heated beds. The lighting is ideal, one doesn’t get blinded and awoken by glare, yet it is soothing but enough to dress without exiting with items inside out!!!

So onto the treatment itself. I will admit, I had heard about Voya seeing as it was born not that far away in Co. Sligo and I did know it was (and was majorly impressed) before ever trying it out that it was the first genuinely organic seaweed based cosmetic range in the world. The benefits of seaweed on the skin are endless. Here are some to name a few:

  • It is organic and dense in vitamins and minerals
  • It contains natural anti-inflammatory compounds useful for breakouts and sensitivity
  • It naturally detoxifies preventing premature ageing
  • Its acts as an anti-oxidant warding off free radicals
  • It restores hydration leaving skin looking and feeling healthier and wrinkles reduced

Rachel informed me the best treatment for my skin would be The Organic Illuminating facial. I had went in with a pretty horrific breakout on both my forehead and chin, my skin was dull and it also lacked hydration. Lucky me eh?! This facial is deeply detoxifying, helps brighten, evens skin tone, increases clarity as well as improving moisture levels. It begins with intense cleansing and exfoliation, it then progresses to The ‘Get glowing’ mask. This mask has become a new favourite of mine. It contains marine anti-oxidants, minerals and skin loving botanicals. While this miracle worked on my skin, Rachel performed ¬†acupressure point facial massage which targets deeper facial muscles and releases any further toxin build up. I then was pleasantly surprised as Rachel carefully placed organics strips of seaweed on my face (I got to bring this home afterwards and put on the plant I neglected and killed….It has since resurrected thanks to Voya!) I expected it to feel as squishy as the stuff I squeal at when having a splash in the sea but it was surprisingly therapeutic (knowing its capabilities). Somewhere around this time I fell asleep as Rachel performed an ecstatic inducing reflexology treatment on my tired feet. I have no idea if I snored or not (sorry Rachel!) but it was the best sleep I have had in a very long time.

To say I was relaxed afterwards is a complete understatment. It really was a beautiful treatment. Attentive therapists are hard come by but Rachel is a pro. She has hands which mould to your facial contours and know exactly what needs her attention. My skin felt amazing and the days subsequent to the treatment were proof of the benefits. I had a glow about me I haven’t had in a long time. I also seen a dramatic improvement to the ugly breakout I was experiencing which has since cleared up. I am now using some of the Voya products in my skincare routine which you will see featured on the blog soon as I am really enjoying their use. To put it into perspective ¬†the Get Glow masque by Voya has replaced the space on my beauty shelf once occupied by Glamglow Youthmud Tingle exfoliate treatment and we are talking significant pocket savings.

So if you are a tired Mammy in need of some R&R and a skin pick me up, give Rachel a call. You won’t be disappointed!

      Hi Michelle,

For sensitivity and Rosacea La Roche Posay and Yonka have some really effective non fragranced products. With rosacea you want to use products to help calm the skin and help restore its natural immune function and hydration.
